Site Update

nomgeek has been up for little over a week, and on my Blog Development Log page I describe this period as being like moving into a new place and you haven’t quite figured out where the furniture goes yet.

I haven’t spread the word about nomgeek save for a few close friends right now, as my main focus is to build this up and give it substance. So now is the time to play around with its look and make sure I have everything the way I want it. So any sudden changes can be attributed to that.

Also, I’ve just now realized that whenever I develop a layout of my own, I would be better off hosting my own WordPress. Which means I need a host. Which also means I need a domain. So until I can supply these things, I’ve chosen a built-in WordPress theme that is pretty nondescript. Something simple enough that won’t end up being too iconic right away. We’ll leave that up to the actual content. Which is how it should be, really.

First!

So let me first just say welcome to the birth of whatever this is. I’ve been on the internets for a very long time, and I’m probably ready to be put down. What are internet years relative to human years? I remember a time when browsing the internet was the equivalent to the days of living without electricity. What the hell did we ever do without YouTube?

Of course, back then we were so amazed by what we already had. And that still seems to be where we are today. We can express ideas and opinions on where this is all going, but in 10 years I don’t think anybody will have imagined what we’ll have.

Things have come a long way, and I’ve been an observer and a hardcore user of it all. But there is one thing I’ve yet to really accomplish, and so my goal here is to establish a long overdue web presence. I already have a presence that exists largely in my own head, of course, as I have an account for nearly everything and I’m online all hours of the day. But only I know about me. And all I do is absorb what’s out there. I haven’t made an impact anywhere, and that’s something I’d like to change.
